I had my monthly hospital visit yesterday and Mrs Shiney had to take me as it is an injection in the eye. The journey took an hour and a quarter as it was rush hour whereas it would normally take no more than twenty minutes. We knew the car parks at the hospital would be a nightmare so parked in Sainsbury's and walked the fifteen minutes to the hospital in lovely sunshine. So the first happy of the day. :blue thumb:

Second one was that they have finally managed to get the medication right to not cause me the agony of the first couple of times. Six drops of anaesthetic, the third choice of antiseptic as I turned out to be allergic to the first two they tried and the anaesthetic worked well because I still only feel as though I was lightly punched in the eye and I can see OK. :blue thumb:

Third one goes back a long way. Sixty three years ago yesterday the first snow of the "Big Freeze" started falling as I was sailing out of Southampton on my first trip in the Merchant Navy. By Boxing Day the snow had been gradually falling harder and harder and they closed the country to shipping and flights. During the next two months the country battled through deep snow and sub zero temperatures until the thaw started on the 6th March. I arrived back from that trip on the 7th March to beautiful sunshine and wonderful snowscapes (that wasn't what my family called it ) and I sailed again on the 21st just as the snow started falling again. So I was lucky enough to miss the bad times. :blue thumb:

I grabbed a couple of pictures from the internet. Some of you may remember those months and there was some snow on and off into May.

I don't remember it @shiney, but my mother used to reminisce about the horror of it all. At that stage, she had 3 young children and didn't drive. Trying to get a pushchair along the deeply rutted pavements was her abiding memory.
