    My ( long-gone ) Dad always referred to Anemones as 'Anny Moneys', or 'Anny Moans' . Helped fix the correct spelling, he said!

      I tend to get sayings wrong. My colleagues seem to enjoy my blips and still commonly use "patronising with the enemy". Close enough I'd say! :noidea:

        How do you pronounce 'Marylebone Road'? On traffic reports on LBC radio they always pronounce it incorrectly.

        Re talking too fast:- I used to get speakers for business organisations and told them in advance that if they spoke too fast we would only pay them half their money. It worked in every case but one where that one told me in plain English what they thought of my restriction. :heehee:

            Having worked there for years, talking to local people and answering the 'phone many times a day with the word 'Marylebone' in my greeting.... it varied! As it varied with the locals I dealt with and I tended to pick up on their pronunciation. Marry-le-bone, Marr-le-bone, Marley-bone, Marley-bon, and so on. Never Mary-le-bone though.
