Just got back from a nice walk this morning to find two messages on the answering machine. One was for me to ring our surgery to have yet another 24hour BP monitor fitting and the other message was from the hospital letting me know I am now at the top of the list for my surgery and to ring them to get the dates etc Anyway, after re running the machine four times to get the number as the lady ringing had said it so fast I couldn't make out the end numbers (I let her know when I rang and she apologised and said she thought she had said it slowwwly) So my date for surgery is March 21st (1st day of Spring?) at 12.15pm and I have to go the week before for my pre op assessment I must be feeling nervous as when I tried to log in,where it says user name I was typing gardeners as in gardeners corner instead of Kandy So now I need to get a move on and get all the jobs done in the greenhouse, allotment and garden,oh and get my BP in some sort of order as well because at the moment it seems to be all over the place and I can't understand why Wish me Luck
Many thanks to everyone for their good wishes I can't believe how quickly the time has come round. Well we are back from the pre op assessment but didn't realise just how long it would take as there was no indication in the letter, but had a good chat with the Consultant who is a scream and we seem to both have the same sense of humour Evidently a chap called Derek is doing the op so I met him and he shook hands with me and said see you on Tuesday As there has been a cancellation due to the lady before me being unwell I am now going under the saw and hammer at 8.15am so Mr Kandy will need to set his alarm clock as he doesn't usually get up until 7am One thing I didn't know about is that I am going to have to have blood thinning injections in my tummy for some time. The first one will go ito my stomach on the day of the op then I will be shown how to do it myself while at home. I will be given everything I need including a Sharps container but I am not really looking forward to it at all but it is evidently to protect against blood clots I have also been given a black shoe which I will have to wear as I start to heal.First two days can only get up to go to the loo and then after that light duties,i.e. Ambulating GENTLY round the house for no more than 5-10 minutes per hour so there will be no 4.5 mile walking every day and also no while on the meds They are also going to give me antibiotics as I will have metal work in my toe in case of any infection I might have due to the foreign objects in my toes Will have to see if I can get one of those plastic bag things to put my foot and leg in so that I can have a shower as I don't fancy being stinky for six weeks although I will try to have a strip wash inbetween.Oh and according to Mr Kandy I have to stay indoors for six weeks but I don't fancy that as I shall be climbing up the walls I do hope they write all this down as I have already forgotten half of what they have told me
Nothing at all to worry about - I had to inject myself in the tummy with this blood thinning drug - when I broke my hip after falling out of the loft....or as I describe it....my skydiving accident...but that's another story... I'll be thinking of you on the 21st - I'm sure all will be fine
Good luck @Kandy. You'll be up and about in no time plus having it now means you'll have most of the spring and all summer to enjoy while you're on the mend. Keep us posted on your progress.
Good afternoon @Kandy my dear friend the woo family will be thinking of you on the 21st,and we all wish you well PS,I am going to make this a sticky thread
