I don't know where to post these, perhaps we should start a new thread.

I took these in the garden yesterday, and would like to have them ID'd. Do we have a mushroom and toadstool expert out there?

Whatever are the first ones? I've never seen any like that before, are the stems flat? How unusual, wonderful shots roders.

David, it looks like you decided to have roders last ones with your bacon and eggs - and fried (and burnt) them on the stalks! Don't you know that you have to pick them first? ;)

To be honest, I can't tell an edible one from a poisonous one, except if I see it in the veggie department in the supermarket.

Let's wait for David to turn up and tell us if they are good to eat.

Nice pic though roders, did you find them in your garden?

Thanks roders. We have quite a few nice ones now, hope we get some more.

I still think the first one you posted looks wierd, almost like something out of a SciFi film!

    Hi Kedi

We've got some mushrooms in our garden. I don't know whether they are edible but am not going to try eating them. I can't take a photo of them as Mrs shiney is on holiday and has taken the camera. Here are a couple of photos taken of them on October 18th three years ago.

The weird looking ones that Roders took look as though they are similar to his second and third photos but are curling up as they die back.

Oh, that was a veritable mushroom woods, shiney!

Yes, I think you are correct re roders photos. The third one came first and then the first one.

Hope Mrs shiney has a nice holiday and perhaps gets some good pics for you to post.

There are far,far more edible fungii than inedible ones. Problem is that a few of the inedible ones are quite nasty and some can be confused with edible ones. There are some good books that can guide you (smell is a significant factor in identification) but the best way by far is to be guided hands-on by someone who knows. We've picked wild chanterelle for years, but some of the best locations are being stripped and ruined now by commercial pickers cashing in on the high prices paid by supermarkets and restaurants.

Mrs W - picking chanterelle for breakfast (we pickled what we didn't fry !>>
