i'm growing a tomato plant in the greenhouse (alicante)problem is, the tomatoes don't seem to ripen properly, tomatoes grow to the size of tennis balls & are a deep red, but on the top where the stem joins the tomato theres a ring of white, when cut in half, the top half is white and looks undeveloped, bottom half is fine and full of flavour, any idea how i can stop this happening next year?

[IMG] We tried Alicante a couple of years ago and had the same problem. Usually grow Moneymaker and Gardeners Delight now. Both seem to be nice and sweet and usually good croppers.

JJordie's got it, Dont grow Alicante.
I used to but, I had it outside, it probably doesn't like the heat in a greenhouse.
Always look for varieties that are bred for greenhouse growing, there's lots of choice these days.
    Have you shaded the greenhouse?

Jjordie, Pete is right, try Shirley, guaranteed good cropper in or outside, but need good airy position inside. If you get lots of sun, like we do here, go for outdoor Toms...ask experts growers, not seed sellers, lol...
