    Beefmaster sounds good.
    As you are eating them now can I ask when you sowed seeds as I have never had any luck with beef toms

      Do they start being ready to harvest early enough in the season?

      Kings Seeds say "late June onwards" but IME that would be early for a beefstake variety (apart from the fact that you sowed yours unfesibly early anyway!!!)

      My late sowing is in March, my early sowing in mid February so I am going to give them a go as I am not far north of lolimac (saying that Yorkshire is a big county)
      To be honest a beef tomato harvesting in August in Yorkshire with a rating of 9 9 9 that is sweet and juicy is worth a punt for me.

        @Jenny namaste ....They were F1's ,although I did save some seed from last year .Good healthy plant but the fruits are no where near as big as the originals and have a disappointing bitter flavour,same texture though.It was worth a try but not to be repeated IMO:thumbsup:

          Bulgarian Giant...Yield..5...lucky to have half a dozen due to 'dry sets'

          Taste..7... Juicy and fairly sweet.

            Shirley, one of the few i've got ripe.

            Sweet, nice tang, not too metalic (bear in mind I don't like tomatoes that much)

            Was great in a curry :)

              Malinowy Henryka, salad tomato
              I originally said I didn't care for this but have done a 180 as the season has progressed. Decent sized salad variety tom with pinkish tinge to colouring, very juicy and a good flavour but slightly tarter than your average salad type, skin marginally thicker than for example Ailsa Craig. Works well without any vinaigrette etc.

              Black Cherry, cherry tomato
              Not as good as Gardeners Delight. Tougher skins and not quite as tasty although a good alternative to try out. Slightly more 'savoury' than the sweeter GD.

              Mrs Maxwells, beefsteak tomato
              A bit rubbish for me. Small fruit although flavour OK. Will be trying an alternative next year.

                Just for you @Sheal - I picked the biggest Golden pearl I could find, slightly larger than a 50p, but generally they are much smaller for me:

                The Manx Marvel are a good yield but a bit bland for my taste.

                  Thanks John. :) Golden Pearl are not supposed to be a 'salad' tomato and the size you have there is about right, somewhere between salad and cherry size. Did you find them sweet? I found if they are left to ripen fully (slightly orange in colour) they are then at their best.

                  I agree with you about the Manx Marvel, very little flavour and probably best used for cooking or chutney etc. :) I'm disappointed with my Gardeners Delight this year, they haven't ripened very well and those that have seem to be slightly sour to taste. I've grown them for many years but will give them a miss next year and try something else. What did you think of the flavour of Black Cherry please?

                  Yes I've found they are best left to fully ripen, I found them not quite as sweet as Sungold (which is my favourite his year). I counted the fruit on each truss, around 40 odd on 10 trusses! The plant is still producing new trusses, I don't think they will all ripen but it looks really healthy.

                  Mine have been disappointing compared to previous years, they have ripened OK but are bland compared to all the others.

                  I love it, again it's a little savoury (rather than sweet), and the skins are thicker than other varieties. It's growing like mad still, very prolific.

                    Interested in others findings. Didn't have a greenhouse for years so wasn't up to date with new varieties as trying to grow Tomatoes in Scotland, outside wasn't something I was going to attempt! Now I have greenhouse again I grew Gardeners Delight having grown that variety years ago. While I have a huge yield the taste is pretty so so and not nearly as nice as I remembered. I now see I'm not the only person to be disappointed with this variety. Any ideas as to why they aren't so tasty as in the past? Mine were grown in good rich garden soil, not in grow bags and were fed royally with Chempak Tomato food.
