Tomatoes - Blight or rust?

Hello All,

Have started growing some tomatoes outdoors from seed in individual pots and a vegetable trough. They seemed to be thriving and with plenty of fruit until a week or so ago when some of the leaves started to die - This was a mixture of browning and the edges and spots in the middle of the leaves.

This quickly develops into the whole leaf dying off, and eventually the whole stem and quickly spreads across the plant. In some cases the plant starts dropping fruit. I have tried to remove the bad leaves and stems, but this does not seem to be controlling whatever it is that is causing the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the issue may be (I have read about blight and possibly rust?), and any possible treatment other than removing the diseased leaves/stems?

To me it looks as if you have been watering over the leaves, which have then been scorched by the sun. Certainly not blight or rust.

 

I think it could possibly be "early blight", spray with copper, but you will then need to wash any fruit you pick.

 

Pete, surely blight starts from spring to autumn depending on weather conditions?

Surely the markings on the leaves indicate scorch? Also, there is no damage to the stems.
