Tomatoes Flowering ?

I doubt it. So everyone who has flowers on their Tomatoes already is boasting about it (actually just 5 people in this thread), and everyone else is just keeping schtump !!

I also seeded my tomatoes in December (the 29th is an anniversary I seed 4 seeds on this day each year) those 4 plants have tomatoes coming along very nicely. I seed 4 more seeds the end of January and those 4 plants are flowering now. All of these early seeded tomatoes have been transplanted into 5 gallon pails and grow inside the greenhouse all summer.

I have about 10 plants I seeded March 15th and they are coming along nicely ready for planting outside the end of this month. Tomatoes do become addictive don't they?

 

We live very far north so I persuaded hubby to invest in a greenhouse heater this year. We are novice gardeners, we've lived in Moray and had our garden for two years. Our tomatoes are about 6inch high and we've planted some into the soil in the greenhouse. I've also planted some marigolds alongside as they are reputed to dissuade whitefly. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've been able to bring on seeds so well and some are now in the cold frame. But, am I safe from frost yet? Or have I been too enthusiastic.

I've also planted out some sweet peas, nasturtiums and dalias. Fingers crossed they survive. They looked healthy when i put them in the soil yesterday.

Sounds like you are doing fine. (They need to be French Marrigolds to deter the Whitefly, preferably Single flowering type)

I had a look on Wunderground at your weather history (See My Blog for some suggestions on determining last-frost date from historical records), and the only stations I can find are North of Moray more towards Lossiemouth

Both of those look to be very mild, but you are a bit further in land, and possibly higher altitude too?

 

My toms are not as advanced and one has already died. I think I will buy some more plants but only have a plastic greenhouse.

 

i've got some hundred and thousand tomatoes, (the really tiny ones), in pots, and they've got flowers on. I started them mid march so i'm really pleased.

 

I like to grow from seed as then i can brag its all my own work,:yho:

i didn`t plant my seed until end of March as away till 14th, so i suppose in 8 weeks in my old plastic green house ,not really so bad.

Hi Kristen, they look healthy- I'm jealous!
I only bought one mini cucumber plant this year and the few toms I have don't look as good as last years. My friend gave me a tumbling tom plant [well 2 actually but 1 died] to try in a basket.

 

Keep your eye on the weather forecast in your area.......if they say it's going to get down to 2 or 3C pull out old sheets or pillow slips or any light cover you can find and just lay it over your tender plants. Don't remove it until the temps warm above freezing in the morning and you will be okay.

We often get an unexpected frost after our last frost free day but I watch carefully and if it's clear and the winds drop off I go and cover even if the weatherman is being a little optomistic. I always think better safe than sorry. It's not that big an effort to cover my babies after all the weeks and months of growing them in the greenhouse one lazy night could wipe me out. I'm super careful and watchful at this time of year. (Actually here I'm watchful until mid June or later.)
