Too late for spring onions?

    Hi all. Been meaning to sow my first ever spring onions and then suddenly September has gone Is it too late to sow outside now? TIA

    I would say that it is too late for this year.
    Once the ground has warmed up a bit in Spring you'll be ok
    Or you could sow indoors a bit earlier and move them outside once they've been growing for a few weeks.

    Not tried for years but I never did well with overwintering spring onions unprotected.

    The spring sown ones were better.

    If your soil is still warm you could try some under tunnel cloches - plastic with removable ends - to keep them warm enough to grow quickly.

    My online forecast is for farmers so tells me that daytime soil surface temps are in the high teens/low twenties but go down to single figures at night which explains why recent veggie plantings are doing well. I do usually sow in cells and then plant plugs tho.
