Does diesel even work as a herbicide? Is it not a myth?

Despite modern advances in engine design, there is still some unburnt fuel that makes it all the way through an engine and out the exhaust. Yet the grass verges along motorways thrive. Using the technique of 'bioremediation', plants are sometimes used to mop up toxins left by all sorts of spills. The trick is often used when cleaning up land that was used long term in heavy industry. At the petrochemicals site just down the road from me, they are growing willow for this purpose. It helps break down and mop up nasties from the ground, then the wood is harvested and goes into the solid fuel power station that's on site.

So this makes me wonder, does diesel kill plants, or is it up there with the old copper nail?

It did the trick for me. Killed and rotted the stumps in about 12 months, must have also done for the roots, as it was very easy to pull up the rootball.

Bore holes about half to one inch diameter at an angle of about 45 degrees and pour in a glyphosate based weed killer.Top up a few times and it should do the job.
