Bit early to be harvesting garlic IMO. Mine are usually totally brown and dead looking.
That one looks like its been damaged in some way.

I also think it's too early, but as it's gone brown there is no harm in using it now. Leave the rest for another few weeks. I have pulled up a few garlic volunteers, they looked like that and won't store.

Yeah we use garlic quickly so we will probably just use this straight away.

The variety is 'Extra Early Wight', planted in late September, so one would expect to pull it up a little early... the suggestion from the seller is May - June. However I think you're probably right that they can go a bit longer. This was one of the only ones that had fully gone brown. The rest are still majority green but starting to turn. Was hoping to get them all up by the end of June.

Decided to clean off the one test bulb of garlic and refrigerate it. We have lasagne tomorrow for dinner so half of it will get used and it'll likely be gone by the end of the week anyway!

The smell is beautiful, and the cloves look fantastic. I hope the rest is up to par when I pull it up. Still counting about 2 brown leaves per plant on the majority, but the necks still quite firm.

          On Courgette watch today.

One of the di Milano's has a courgette growing! Keeping an eye on it because I know how quickly they grow.

and I'm soooooo excited that my de Nice is growing a courgette! Can't explain how excited I am for this one. Don't know why, but it's the one plant I was most hyped up for. I saw a picture of the finished squash last year and just HAD to grow it, mainly just because it looked so damn pretty. And now it's hereeee. I have two of these de Nice plants, three di Milano's and one mystery Italian.

Here is part of my garlic harvest from last week.

I had planted thirty bulbs worth of cloves last October - so, quite a lot!

Living in Scotland unless we get a good summer, growing Courgettes outside is a bit hit or miss so grow some in the greenhouse. I noticed today the main stems just above the soil, in 2 out of the 4 plants in the greenhouse have split open although look as tho they are healing over. Presume this must be erratic watering? Seems a bit odd as I am pretty fastidious and it is only 2 of the 4 that have split. All have been treated the same way. Again presume this will weaken the plants? Should I just wait and see or remove the split stemmed ones to give the others more room when they really get going? Only other thing which may have caused the splitting is we have had really really hot weather recently and despite all windows/ vents being open the greenhouse has been as hot as the hammers from hell, could this be responsible?

Pulled up my extra early garlic today and elephant garlic too. The Provence garlic will need a fair bit longer I think.

Impromptu drying rack. One bulb was damaged so will get used for dinner tonight. Will keep an eye on the others and try to use them in order of which looks the best!

Rain due so will have to find another location to dry them.

Had a scratch around one of my Germidour garlic this afternoon and the bulb was about 35mm diameter. Only the first couple of lower leaves are starting to turn and there's several weeks of further swelling up before they'll be lifted.

After an incredibly slow start this year when my onion sets sat and sulked for over a month before starting to sprout, they now look the strongest and healthiest they've been in years (hope they don't develop bull neck) and not a single plant has thrown up a seed spike.

                    Have just done some reseeding.

After removing the garlic and elephant garlic, have now made space for more seeds.

Reseeded the radishes as slugs got most of them (didn't put pellets down, idiot).

Reseeded the red lettuce and Gustav lettuce which didn't take... I suspect I didn't keep the soil watered well enough as I was relying on soaker hose but needed to actually spray the surface water twice a day really. Gave the lettuce a good soaking in.

Planted out Kale and Choy Sum. No idea if they will take or if its even ideal. However moving day looms (presuming a house comes up! been a bit slow recently) so anything leafy to enjoy earns a place in the raised bed because in 3-6 months we could not be here anymore.

Can't wait for the day I can have a proper neat set of raised beds. Instead of my makeshift bed where I have to scramble up the sides and cling onto the fence to access parts of it! It's 100% less than ideal. But it allows me to grow in the space I have so I'm happy with it.

Lettuce doesn't germinate in high temperatures.

Yeah that's what I suspected. I managed to get some to germinate a few weeks ago but I think the real high temps over the past week stopped it. It's going to dip again, so we shall see. If not I'll find something else to earn a spot!

I need suggestions as to what I can get/sow for a sunny border as the majority of the carrots I planted in that border have carked it, and there is zero sign of the parsnips I sowed either - nettles are doing well though....

Other than maybe beetroot or radishes, any suggestions?

I grow cos lettuce and nip out the heart leaving a few outside leaves, it then regrows more leaves so can be continuosly picked through the summer. Saves having to raise more seedlings.
