    Which variety of tomatoes are they @noisette47 ? It seems very early to be getting ripe beefsteak tomatoes in July.

      We have a couple of ripe beefsteak tomatoes that have ripened before any others. I don't know what variety they are as Mrs Shiney handles all tomato growing (I'm allergic to the leaves - also allergic to courgette leaves and some conifers :rolleyespink:). I'll try to remember to ask her about them.

      @Scrungee your beans are a good length. Our beans have been producing quite well for over a week (two weeks later than normal) but the varieties we grow don't reach that length. The flowers are really getting prolific and I've picked some beans at over 10ft from the roots. I've picked over 7lb so far and expect to be selling them from next week.

      Some of the plants are doing poorly with no flowers and struggling to get over 4ft whereas others have already reached at least 12ft. :scratch:

      For new members that don't know how much I grow, I have approx. 200 bean plants (includes a range of French beans and runners) and sell the produce for charity. With the French beans the ones doing best at the moment are the yellow ones (a new trial for Which?) followed by the heritage Bridgwater (flat purple striped) with the green varieties coming a poor third.

      Some courgette plants have been producing very well (mainly the striped ones) and others still not producing female flowers.

        They're called Grosse Italienne @ Scrungee. The Coeur de Boeuf are also ripening. Don't bother with any others recently.

            Roasted in butter alongside a shed load of courgettes. They were ok, not enough flesh too much skin. I am hoping for bigger ones soon but suspect all will be golf ball sized.

              Damn this Brexit business! I could send you kgs of the things! And that's in a gloomy summer. It's no good, I'm going to have to make Brinjal pickle to go with the winter curries :biggrin: I wonder whether it makes a big difference growing them directly in the soil?

                  Somehow missed this thread but will add something soon!
                  Only started the veg area off this year and without any compost available at the time the soil needs a lot more love. Did harvest the garlic recently which did ok for some supermarket cloves rushed into the ground

                    @noisette47

                    I've just realised that my aubergine Jackpot is described as a dwarf patio variety, or so called baby veg. Big mistake, or should that be Little mistake :wallbanging:
