@shiney the leaves remind me of rudbeckia (well, like mine are) but slimmer.

Well, the OP said it was called ver-something. There's not that many plants start with those letters.

I cut it back last autumn... so at the moment it’s just a small compact plant... I trust there’s no harm in just leaving it be and seeing what happens this year?

Would it be crazy to cut it down to just a few inches?

          Hello Kriss

Just treat as any other perennial plant ; if looking too tatty cut down to tidy up .
I lost mine years ago ; got dug up by mistake maybe ?
Your original picture looked familiar ; using the magnifier on the PC I seemed to detect some expired flower heads which looked all too familiar .
Hope I'm correct here ! (Feel a bit of a pl**ker if not)

Sorry Kriss but your first pic is most definitely not Verbena bonariensis.
Look at the shape of the leaves in your 1st pic and 2nd pic and compare them...
Have put both your pics together on same page.

You may have bought Verbena bonariensis 2 years ago but that is not in pic 1.
See my pic of leaves below.

Just be patient.....in a few weeks/months it will be flowering again and you can then get an accurate id.

Something has happened to it.... it’s definately the plant shown in the label. The middle pic taken last summer shows it’s in the same spot (far right.) And another pics taken today with some buds still there from last year show it’s the same one.

Have the plant lost it’s form?! The leaves and colour are different! But I swear it’s not been moved!
