    Hi all,

Pictures aren’t great but not sure if my viburnum Kilimanjaro is dead. It was in an area that I think had too much shade.

I’ve moved it to a sunnier spot but fear it might be past it

If you scratch the bark is there any green underneath? If not ... "curtains" I think. I always leave dead plants a season where possible. They sometimes "Lazarus" :) from the base.

Hi yes there is still some green when I scratch? Do you think I should just leave it for now?? Or do I cut it back? Is there anything I can do to help it?

How much sun was it getting a day, Lee? Agree with Kristen, I wouldn't give up on it, just leave it and see what it does. Some of my winter-flowering deciduous shrubs have been all over the place due to the mild Winter we've had, with slightly earlier flowering and briefer flowering periods compared to previous years.

BTW, isn't it a tad too close to that fence, considering its final width? :dunno: Would plant it at least a metre away!

I would wait and let it sprout, and then cut back (if necessary) once I could see what was actually sprouting

It wasn’t getting a whole lot and I kind of neglected it last summer whilst doing other projects.

I take the point on the fence but it was the sunniest spot I had with space. Hopefully it does ok.

Any ideas when I should possibly expect to see any green shoots?

I'm not familiar with the species Lee, I only grow bodnantense and tinus. I'm guessing that it may take a little longer to come out of dormancy this year after spending all that time in a shadier spot and being transplanted. :dunno:

where about in the country are you Lee ? I've seen a Viburnum Plicatum ( Not Kilimanjaro but same group ) already budding up . Full sun or part shade isn't a problem for this species and will still grow under full shade just not very well.

          Hi again.

Perki I am in Sheffield. It is now getting a few hours sun in the morning but still no signs.

I can definitely see a faint tingle of green when I scratch the bark but no signs of life otherwise.

I am a bit stuck of whether to wait or give up?

its not looking good I would expect it showing a bit of life by now. , I suppose they is no harm waiting a bit longer due to the lockdown. You can have a look around for something else after the lockdown finished and the garden centres are back open.

            Thanks,

I will leave it another couple of weeks then give up.
We have a couple of nurseries still open I can order from if not

I have the same plant that I planted last year. The leaves have already emerged and flower buds forming. I’m not hopeful for yours, I’m afraid
