I've dug and sieved the soil over and over again and I think I've eliminated all the little buggers. My planting bed are looking good, what should I add to the soil to enrich it, blood fish and bone ? Chicken manure pellets?? Or something else. Or should I leave it as it is. Any advice welcome :ThankYou:

As the ground has been fallow, it should be OK as it is but there's no harm in adding Blood, Fish & Bone, or Chicken Pellets or if you can get it from a local pigeon keeper, Pigeon Poo.

The worst source of vine weevils was and possibly still is, the imported plants from Holland. I bought a Hebe a few years back and found over 40 of the grubs in the pot. We had stood and waited for the Dutch lorry to unload the plants so we know they came from them.
As for beating them......no. The adults are very difficult to kill. I dropped one in pure bleach one time and it was still alive 24 hours later.
The only thing which killed the adults was Lindane, which also killed human beings.

There is reputedly a container load of it sunk somewhere in the Channel. If it ever leaks it will supposedly destroy all sea life for miles around.
It was still available in Eire for a long time after it was banned everywhere else.

About 5 years ago I had a bad infestation of weevils and drenched all pots and borders with provado which mire or less sorted the popcorn. I've had a few since but nothing I can't keep on top of.

I find female Vine Weevils very easy to kill when I find them.I just drop them on to a paving slab when they play dead and then tread on them.Quiet easy really and that is the same way I kill the red Lily beetles as well:snorky:

I used nematodes last year for vine weevil and had 100% success with one dose.! Never had that when using chemicals so nematodes every time for me now whenever possible.!

So the adults are out feeding. Just popped outside and found 30 within around 15 minutes.

Looks like I'll be busy this year nematodes have just been watered in.

I need a better way to catch and kill the adults.

Nematodes for me too.....from leatherjackets in lawns to carrot fly in veg patch.:)
A combo of catching the adults at night and nematodes have noticeably reduced vine weevils here. Plus a reduction in using straight mpc.......mpc is perfect for vine weevils

Started finding vine weevils in the house in March ! I presume they were coming from the trailing Begonia corms I had planted . Found about a dozen over two weeks before Mrs H found them and red carded me . I bought Bug Clear Ultra vine weevil killer and applied this to the pots . The instructions are to apply in June and August . I'll dose the baskets then, hopefully I will have "clean" corms when I store them at the end of the season .
When I store the Begonia corms , I do dust them with sulpher powder.

Just thinking would vine weevil attack Canna rhizomes ?
