Yep, OK Peter, a job for the Christmas period I think.

    I hate shopping.
I had a look online, but it all gets very confusing

A good idea PeterS, if it's the 'other' cable that runs from their wall mounted box to the modem it needs unscrewing both ends.

John - I am not even sure what that 'other' cable is or how it connects. At one time I had a lot of trouble with my modem which the helpdesk couldn't solve, but the solution for me was in fiddling with the connection of that 'other' cable. Since then I don't like to touch it.

Pete - I just had a Google. Its called an ethernet cable and you should be able to have one up to 300 feet in length without appreciable loss in signal. Another bloke said 14 kilometers or more if you get a glass fibre one. :D

I think this is the sort of cable. http://www.maplin.co.uk/searchtemplate.asp?criteria=ETHERNET CABLE You can get 5 meters for around £10. I am not suggesting that you buy one of these - but wanted to show the sort of price from Maplin. PC World will probably be a bit more.

Ok thanks, I will look into it.
As you say Maplins might be the better bet but they are High st around here, PC world is out of town.

Bet you can guess which I prefer:D.

I'll definitely ask for the 14 kilometer cable as it will probably be better value for money.:D

I got a cable from Maplins in the end, as you say an ethernet cable, patch cable.
Category 5, if that means anything to anyone.
