I have got a virginia creeper which I bought last autumn which is just starting to come to life. I would like it to cover a fence and shed which is in a shady corner of the garden. How would it cope with this?

Also, could a shrub lavatera live happily next to a rhodendrum?

Sorry, these questions may seem quite obvious but I really don't want to harm them by siting them wrongly.

I have a lavatera that grows fairly close to a rhodi and they seem fine to me :blue thumb:

I have a virginia creeper too but that loves full sun the parts where it grows into the shade dont really do much...

We planted virginia creeper around the privacy panels around our deck last summer, and its going crazy this year.

Mine are pretty much in full sun all day, and it loves it.....and i agree with Hydrogen that it may take longer to grow in the shade.

I grow a VC in the shade , it gets the sun until 10 in the morning. It grows fine , they are a lovely plant . It tends not to have many leaves low down but I trim back a couple of stems every year ( actually doing it today ! ) to generate some leaves at low level. One point VC is deciduous , mine is just about coming into full leaf now , you then lose the leaves in Autumn after the spectacular colour change . So if you are using it to cover a fence you will only have 5 months of cover . Maybe an evergreen climber would be better Clematis or Firethorn etc. etc.
