I'm after a particular weather vane type thing which i remember from my childhood in my nans' next door neighbours' garden. It was on a platform and had a "bloke" which cranked a handle into ( i think) a windmill whenever the wind blew, as well as the whole platform turning round. I thought if i'm going to get a weather vane, why not get one like, or the same as, the one that i spent so much time mesmerised by "when ah were a lad". It would compliment my garden perfectly. I also remember someone having a bucking Rodeo too. I've found something similar online called Whirligigs but these are all in America and i doubt my nans' neighbour, who was probably about 180 at the time, would have bought something from America. Does anyone here have one, or something similar, or a pic of one, or know what i need to look for? (Similar to the below).

Sorry, Scorpio, I do have a Weather Vane [galloping horse] on the roof of the house but I've not seen anything you describe......but for some reason there is something like a memory at the back of my mind, must have been when I was a kid.:snork:

I know exactly what you mean but I don't think i've seen them for sale since the 1970s

Did a search under novelty garden stuff but only found a windmill duck.

Was it the one where the man was frantically winding a handle on a well..? Everytime the wind caught it.. :heehee:

Not seen one in a long time now you mention it but you could look in your local garden centres at their whirlygigs & garden stakes, cos you never know what you might find... Otherwise I think you might have to make one..

Ah yes. The Woodchopper and Sawyer are potentials but the contact form on their website doesn't work.
