    Hi all,

we have just planted into the ground a couple of new trees (royal empress and a Paul’s Scarlett) and I’m not confident as to how often I should water them at this time of year? Gave them a good soak last weekend when planted but not too sure if I should water weekly...the ground has been frozen once or twice this week but things are getting milder again now in Cambs as it’s been quite rainy this last couple of days. I’ll of course start watering them more regularly in the spring, but much needed before then?

          Much depends upon the term,'tree/s'.

If planted with a rootball and having followed the basics,eg: digging a suitable sized hole, filling with water and letting it drain away, planting and firming the subject. A furth soaking will not go amiss. From then on at this time of year and as the tree is probably entering it's dormancy, leave well alone.

@pete "Paul's Scarlet" is a decorative hawthorn, "Royal Empress" appears to be a Paulownia tomentosa.
@Anthonyd70 I agree with Mike and Pete I wouldn't think of watering until I saw signs of growth next spring. Even then I would only water if it was very dry already.
