    Hi
Can anyone recommend a good weed killer for Ivy. We have tried Round up concentrate but it still keeps coming back. Unfortunately where the roots are there is no way we can get there to dig it out. Also, is there such thing as a selective killer that only kills Ivy?
    Thanks

Hi Nigel the round up should of worked as it contains glyphosate.
The trick is to leave as much of the plant ie dont cut down and to pre crush the leaves of ivy as they have like a waxy coat/sheen .
It sound like you have cut it all back and you are having regrowth if f so leave alone for now then treat later in the year as the plant will absorb into the stems and roots its the same with bind weed I have put in a bamboo cane let it grow then in late summer I spray this also works realy well
No good using to pour into the soil as it brakes down and you will be wasting ££
    Hope this helps

Roundup will work if you choose the correct time of year and conditions Nigel. Maybe you applied it over the winter? It doesn't work very well then, you need to wait till it starts to actively grow, which is now onwards really. Choose a dry day and make sure you get the fresh growth properly covered in the spray - crush the leaves as Spruce suggests will help - also you can cover the growing points with Roundup in a poly bag, that way the ivy has loads of time to adsorp the chemical. Good luck :)

My brother used creosote, spray or paint on. It only needed one treatment. I know creosote is no longer available but there is a new version of it on the market. I presume that would work aswell.

Must admit I've never found Glyphosate to work very well on Ivy.

Digging out or finding the main stems and cutting them off is the best I think.

But if its running across the ground, forget it.
Digging it out is the only way.
