    The law is the law. It is there because if we based all our judicial decisions on emotion we would have utter chaos. While I don't always agree with the rulings we hear of in the media, I am glad I live in a country where there are rules. I'd hate to live somewhere where, for example, you might get stoned to death without trial on the whim of a few individuals. Like Britain, before our legal system was as solid as it is now.

    Not quite.

    My understanding is that his sentence was unlawful because his crimes were committed prior to 2005 (when IPP's were introduced).

    Interestingly, IPP's have since been abolished.
