In the days of Afghan coats I got one with a few tiny mirrors in it. It stank to high heaven of dead goats and the village dogs followed me everywhere, drooling. I remember there was a sign at the entrance to the local cinema that said “No Afghans”. You’d have a job with that sign these days.

The latest trouser-trend for Gen Z seems to be the mega baggy loose fitting ones with incredibly wide legs. Awful lot of wasted material and a couple of pairs would fill a washing machine! I'm not grousing, though. I remember the 24" flares of 50 years ago!:runforhills:

I know! My point is folks can only vote for someone on the ballot paper, so that is why Trump is President rather than a different CEO.

I would say I think the selection process for getting on the ballot is very flawed, as it is here. Out of 300+ million Americans, two old men surely cannot be the best options. That one was so decrepit, he had to be forced out of the running at the last minute shows the system for getting a candidate in place is not working well.

People have always mocked the things that scare them, haven't they @Tidemark ? Terribly cruel and unnecessary. But a brave man, doing all he can to help others with such disabilities. Thanks for sharing his story.

Ah! Afghans! They did reek to high heaven didn't they, especially when they got wet? THE smell of the '60s and '70s. Along with patchouli, ambergris, musk and jasmine. Talk about olfactory overload!

I always wondered how many Afghan dogs it took to make an Afghan coat.

It isn't working well over here, but better than in the US where a major factor is how much cash can you persuade the rich to put into your campaign. At least we try and control the cash wasted on adverts.
The big difference between here and the US is that here the Prime Minister can only select his Ministers from the members of the two houses of Parliament.
While in the US the President can select whoever he likes to a government roll admittedly they have to be okayed by the Congress, but that comes down to which party has a majority. They are not elected by the electorate.

The sooner they get rid of all those peers the better. Starting with Lebedev.

How many hereditary peers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Change? How dare you, sir! That lightbulb has been in my family for seven generations!

I said that way before Trump ever entered the arena. There were many other Presidents going back 20 years that I would say, is that all America has to offer. But, we had to deal with what the process did and what we had to choose from. Have a feeling there are some darker secrets abounding in the process of President selection choices.
Recently the John F. Kennedy sealed files about his assignation has been unsealed. Hoping to hear some interesting stuff from there.

There is an interesting book I have slowly read called The Creature from Jekyll Island, about the Financial beginnings of USA and the WHO's WHO's that had the power then and still do today. As I read some of the paragraphs I say to myself, OH wow, is that why that is. The book really explains what they did back then, and how it still continues today. It is historic factual in nature. Jekyll Island, is an island off the coast of Georgia, USA. to get there you fly into Florida, land in St. Augustine, Florida, then drive north some, cross bridges etc, There is also St. Simon Island there. Anyway, the Who"s Who" that summered in New York and Rhode Island in those mansions back then, would winter on Jekyll Island, it was there that the Federal Reserve was conceived by the gathering of those rich folks. We did vacation there one year in 1990, toured the mansions etc. Rode horses on the beach. Nice southern type island.

Not read that one, @redstar, though I have read some interesting stuff about how the Federal Reserve got set up, etc.

Mods and Rockers anyone ? Mods = Hush Puppies and Vespa scooters and Rockers = leather jackets and "proper " motor bikes ( the noisier the better apparently ).
Now it's trousers which show half your backside and a Vroom Vroom vehicle ( bike or car ) preferably accompamied by loud music

Apparently high waist trousers are the fashion now @Philippa and no rips in jeans. So last year!

I like high waisted jeans and trousers and only wear rips for gardening which is where most of them appear or get bigger.

I'd forgotten the ripped jeans @Obelix-Vendée They really did drive me mad. If you wear them long enough, they produce their own rips as we've discovered  I also seem to recall Faded Denim being popular at one time - completely mad !!
