I wonder why she was unable to sell? Obviously priced too high, which is what pushes up prices, people wanting more money than the place is worth. If she had lowered the price I'm pretty sure she would have been able to sell it.
Interesting what Shiney heard. My paper said that their leases were not renewed when they ran out. So her intention was to relet the property at a higher rent. It was obvious she had to resign as she was bring in laws to prevent landlords doing what she did.
That is kind of you to think of me. Apart from loosing the top of a rather nice Liquid Amber( see photo 1) all was well. I hope you were too? Have had my fair share of “ timber” over the last couple of years with violent storms. Lost a magnificent ancient Beech ( see photo 2) a couple of years ago and then an equally ancient Silver Birch( see photo 3).Only good thing about these lovely trees getting blown down is I use loads of wood in 2 big wood burning stoves so the wood is not being wasted.
Apparently she was supposedly responsible for introducing a bill which would make what she did illegal, although her actions weren't illegal as the law currently stands. Nonetheless, very much smack of "Don't do as I do, do as I say".
I think it was basically as Shiney has reported and as KT53 mentions it goes against the law that they are currently trying to bring in. I believe it's written quite fairly in this article Homelessness Minister Rushanara Ali quits over rent increase claims Given what some politicians have got away with lately I think it's probably a push to remove her with the promise of some other job down the line.
Perhaps more like "Do as I do at the moment as tomorrow it will be Do as I say ". If she was within the law at the time, the only reason to resign was the sheer hypocracy of her actions - not unheard of in any govt. Does anyone know of another Whaaat issue.......... the intention of bringing in a new law banning parking a vehicle in one's own driveway ? OH read it somewhere but I find it hard to believe so could be fake.
All the different slants on the situation is just typical of political bias, one way or another, of politicians and media. I try never to accept the first thing I hear about anything - unless I'm spreading the rumour. Many years ago there were a few of us discussing the veracity of rumours and how they are spread. This was way before social media. So I decided to see how far things would go. I started a rumour that the local authority was going to close the local market - they were the landlords of the open market place and rented out the stalls. Two weeks later the chief executive of the council came to me to ask what I knew about it. I knew him well and he was a customer of mine and he knew that I tended to hear all the local gossip. He asked me whether I knew about the rumour, which he insisted was not true, and I told him that I had started it. I then told him that he could easily go to the media and tell them it was not true (I told him that I would deny it if he tried to blame me ) and that he could do a good deed for the stall holders by emphasising that people should support the excellent local market. The stallholders had been telling me for some months that trade had been dropping off. It picked up again after the publicity.
It was posted here some months ago and was supposed to be a council in London. I didn't bother to check up on it so don't know any more and can't comment on whether it could be attributed to one of those type of people that spread rumours.
Apparently debanking due to religious or political views is being banned in the US. That's something we could do with importing. Banks have no place discriminating against customers on these grounds, IMV, and the way in which people can be debanked but not told why needs addressing too. How can you put your case if you don't know what you are supposed to have done?
Thanks @shiney re the parking ban. I thought it somewhat weird. You do realise you have now created a new 3 letter acronym - Rumour Monger Extraordinaire Sounds as if it did the job tho. @ViewAhead how do banking facilities get to know of your religion or political persuasion other than a client being vociferous about either via Social Media ? Money is money whichever way you look at it and I cannot see the difference. The banking world would do better if they made efforts to deal with money laundering and tax evasion which I think the UK is famous for. No sign yet of any real attempt on that issue.
I've never been asked about my political views, religious views or anything else by a bank and I cannot imagine why they would. @ViewAhead I'm sorry if you are concerned about this happening to you, I'd change my bank if it became a concern to me rather than waiting for the US to pass legislation, sometime maybe never and then the UK maybe following suit.
I'm not concerned about it happening to me, but I am concerned it happens at all. Banks are there to provide a service, IMV, not make value judgements. And debanking people without having to give them a reason why seems unfair. On my own account, I'd be more concerned about being deSainsbury'ed for some perceived misdemeanour. I did abandon a self-service till mid-scan last week, as it refused to acknowledge my lemons and no one seemed in any rush to help. I hope moving to another till and starting all over is not deemed a violation of any sort.
Apart from Farage, whose rich banking friends sorted it for him, do you know anybody it has happened to? As for Sainsburys I've done exactly the same as you when the blessed machine has seized up. I find the local Aldi staff to be better than Sainsburys.
@Philippa just reverting to TLA's for a moment:- A blight upon the page, a three-letter curse, These TLAs, a verbal traverse. From simple words, they twist and they fray, Obscuring meaning in a needless way. I abhor the trend, the quick and the terse, Where clarity is lost, a linguistic verse. They clutter up the thought, the flow, the phrase, In this digital age, in these confusing days. So let us speak plain, let words find their grace, And banish these TLAs from this hallowed space. Let language be free, from their constricting hold, And stories be told, as they were of old.
