Saves a lot of time just reading the fact checking on anything Trump says. Evidently none of his Maga supporters actually do that, just take his word for it. It would be laughable if it wasn’t such a tragedy.

 

So, Lindsey Hoyle (HoC speaker) was on some work trip to the Virgin Isles last week. Did we pay for this? What possible "work" could it have involved that could not be done by email or Zoom?

A couple of weeks ago the official employment figures came out, more people out of work, it was only two days later that some cabinet minister was saying there are more people in work now that there ever has been.

Statistics are not worth looking at or taking any notice of anyone who uses them as a base of supporting their view.
I guess that means we ignore all politicians.

 

The speakers always seem to have some reason to be globe trotting, just taking advantage of their position, like they all do.
The horrible little scroat that we had before was always doing the same.

House of Commons was shut for half term last week.
The question I have is how come Mishcon de Reya well known divorce and civil case solicitors are acting for Peter Mandelsson in a criminal case?

 

Trump is also slang for an audible fart.

 

I've never understood why he doesn't get more hecklers.
It was the sycophantic cheering and applause that particularly irritated me last night, I thought the US was the "Land of the free" .

As for the constant cheering and applause re The Speech, I gather there were quite a number of stoney faces there as well as some who walked out part way thru. I'd guess hecklers wouldn't stand a chance in those circumstances - much like Parliament over here.

 

Why the HoC shuts for half term and a very long summer break is also a mystery to me, given they are always bemoaning there is not enough time to pass legislation. Re trotting off to the Virgin Isles, ceremony etc is all very well but when there is a budgetary black hole, I wouldn't think forking out for flights for such "events" should make the list of things to be paid for and I fail to see how it represents good use of UK tax-payer money.

 

Much of the audience were invited guests, and republican voters. I think there is also ample evidence that if you say anything against Trump, there will be retaliation in the form of ‘Trumped’ up charges of some sort, and one of Trump’s corrupt appointed judges leading the attack.
It will be interesting to see what happens after he leaves office. Despite having had himself given immunity for whatever he gets up to while he is president , there will be plenty of people ready to get their revenge by calling out much of his illegal actions, insider trading etc.

 

@Obelix-Vendée I couldn't listen to the whole speech but if there were any claims based on actual fact, I'd be extremely surprised. Unfortunately it would seem we are stuck with him for a while yet.

It's in their interests to keep the breaks and the perks, so they would come up with some justification or other.
