I didn't mean it was an old Peta story, just that the situation itself is "old" @NigelJ

I am fully aware of that and I suspect it's the same film as has been shown in cinemas recently.

What I find hard/devastating to understand is that it would appear that the majority of people think it's OK.

Has the number of protesters killed during Iran's crackdown recently ever been verified ? The figure given previously was 30,000 plus. I suspect it is practically impossible to get anywhere near the truth about that once you get into the tens of thousands. As for Trump telling the citizens of Iran to stand up to the regime, I'd like to see him personally join in the protests and risk torture and death himself.
Add Trump to the list of those who do not consider international laws apply to them.

Iran has every reason to be angry at and mistrustful of the USA and its local allies as well as the UK. In 1953 the US and UK conspired together - Operation Ajax - to remove a democratically elected PM who had the audacity to nationalise Iranian oil and take it out of British control. That was under a Labour government led by Attlee.

They installed the man known as the Shah who ruled for the next 26 years using his brutal SAVAK secret police to quash opposition with the support of the US and UK because he kept the oil flowing. Then he ceased to be useful and we got the Ayatollahs in charge with their own extremist views about oppression.

It's no wonder they allied themselves with Putin and have been supplying oil to China altho Putin has not helped except with intelligence. China, meanxhile, is playing its long game and has introduced more solar and wind power in the last few years than the USA has altogether. It's shutting down its dependence on coal and oil, planting millions of trees to reclaim desert and change rain patterns and making new trade deals with Canada and south America to bypass US tariffs and trading leverage.

The entire US operation in Iran is illegal in terms of both the US constitution and international law and cocaine fuelled Hegseth is treating it like a computer game, boasting how many people and resources the US plans to take out each day with no thought to innocent victims or future complications and, least of all, rebuilding.

I've got to the point where I wonder how any sane politican in the rest of the world cannot be seen to condemn utterly the US and Israel assaults and refuse to comply or condone.

Agree, but it seems with good reason - a kid in a school playground soon learns that if you are about to get the living daylights pounded out of you, standing and saying it is against the rules doesn't cut any mustard.

Let's be honest, the entire area has never been happy and never will be - we should never, ever have gotten involved... but, we did - and because we are involved, we are stuck with being involved. We also forget that we are looking back to those events through the lens of today where our sense of what is 'just' is completely different than it was back then, so there is every possibility that there was the best of intentions with whoever was installed into power - of course that was always going to descend into oppression because that is simply the way it is over there. We might not like it, or agree with it, but the simple fact is they think differently to us.

As for the legality of any war or action - is it ever? Really?? Law is open to interpretation, it can require much debate at times by numerous legal minds and even then, they won't agree. That is all well and good when trying to decide if you are due a refund on PPI or dieselgate etc, but when lives are perceived to be at risk or threats are being made, there is zero time to mess around... "hold on a few weeks lads, we need to work out whether it is legal or not to wade in here - oh, and we need a year or two to build the blueprints so we know how many hanging baskets you can have when we rebuild" - - sadly, not how the real world works.

The main worry is who ends up in power next and how nicely they play along with the rest of the world - and, of course, what the link is between this mess, Russia and China as I am utterly convinced there is a hell of a lot more behind this than we will ever know. We are making a hell of a lot of sofa judgements with barely a grain of evidence or information. It is possible that they know stuff we don't.

And as much as I don't like Trump, I also don't buy into the "orange man bad" thing regardless of what he does - it very often seems that it wouldn't matter if he was housing the world's homeless. to some folks he would still be all that is evil. One thing is for absolute certain - we are in no position to crow about anything with the bunch of snakes we have in our parliament.
