Indeed - my feeling is that the likes of Iran are China's "useful idiots" in this circumstance.

China is no different than any other nation in that each is out for it's own interests. Just a case of what methods they can use depending on how rich and powerful they are. Obviously some are better at planning for the long term wherever possible than others.
Russia is quite blatant.......it wants to reinstate the USSR. Israel is determined that a Palestinian state will not exist in the forseeable future. The US wants to dictate to other countries as to their leaders, their govts, their beliefs, their resources and so on. Iran wants to treat their citizens as they see fit and continue their treatment of them accordingly. China waits patiently. None have any worries about how many deaths or how much devastation they cause to get their own way.
What would be the American ( or even the UK's ) response be if another country decided to attack them in order to establish regime change ? Fight back or lay down ? Plenty disagree with the current "regimes" in both countries so in today's climate, who is prepared to rule that out ?
They're all mad as hatters - end of story:wallbanging:

China is just another one that needs to be kept at arms length, we need to trade with countries but that doesn't mean we have to be best buddies.
I'd be wary of India also.

Agree - but sadly, we've done the complete opposite, especially in relation to China... hell, only this weekend they've refused the government's proposals to keep a steel plant open. We've sold them control of infrastructure such as power, transport, steel, telecoms and have also basically financed them building their military... and all the while, having deep (and right, in my opinion) concerns about their human rights record and their honesty, basically. We've let them into our nest like cuckoos.

But we do seem to like their "investment" as they call it.

I am firmly of the mind that is their method - they don't invade countries in the traditional sense, they "invest" and in a creeping fashion, until they literally have you beholden to them and fully dependent on them.

That is why things such as the approval of the new embassy, or indeed the more recent arrests of political (Labour) figures for alleged spying on their behalf should worry us all.
