I don't think it matters that the youth was illegal or speeding. If the driver who killed him had been sobber they would have mitigtaed but he was drunk and not in control so his sentence is an insult.

On a different note, for those of us worrying about prices for gas and oil to heat their homes and drive their vehicles, that nice JD Vance has spoken.

Did you actually watch and hear what he said? He did say that our allies are suffering more than we are due to the fact the US has built one of the largest emergency stock pile of oil reserves in the world. Since the Arab embargo in the early seventies the Americans have built under ground storage for reserves of 700 million barrels of oil. While other countries have prioritized on the green agenda, the US have always kept a high volume of oil reserves, which is what he was emphasising and has a point. In the interview, Vance did not mention the word comfort, so the Vance said "Americans should find comfort that our Allies are suffering more than we are" has been taken out of context as he said frankly. This is what happens when you only see and hear only what you want to.

Also the US is self sufficient when it comes to oil and gas and even exports.

OK it doesn't help price wise but when shortages start it's a fairly good benefit.

"Trump says US considering 'winding down' war in Iran but other nations must guard Hormuz"
Either he's got bored, or it's costing too much see Iranian strikes on bases used by US caused $800m in damage, analysis shows it's not just the financial cost, but you don't replace some of the damaged kit quickly, or he realises that the Iranians are not going to capitulate (surprise surprise) and without a lot of feet on the ground and a lot of body bags coming back to the US the US are not going to win.
This means he will say the US "won" meanwhile the US packs up and goes home leaving the Iranian regime battered, but in place claiming victory over the "Great Satan" and vowing revenge for the damage inflicted and lives lost.
So having stirred up a wasps nest, he will want US "allies" to clear the mess up.
      One war two winners?

Apparently the USS Gerald R Ford is heading for a US base in Crete for repairs after a fire, it may be out of action for 14 months, that'll cost a few bob to fix.

These mass religious observances in public places. Must say I am on the "against" side. All religions act as "them and us" clubs. Now, if you specifically choose to go to a building where one of these clubs functions, fair enough. But if you are out and about in a public space, you shouldn't have to navigate round mass displays of praying. And that goes double for religions that systematically marginalise and oppress women. In this country, public outdoor spaces are available for equal use by men and woman, and to start changing that is a very slippery slope. Hire out Wembly stadium or another vast venue if you wish, but leave the streets for those of us who do not share your lifestyle choice to go about our daily business without impediment.

Apparently it's been going on for years in Trafalgar square, it's all news to me.
Next week some other bunch is taking it over.
