Many commentators believe WW III started with the US attack on Iran this year.

Alberta separating from Canada is as likely as Minnesota joining Canada.:roflol:

If they had any validity they would not have needed to go begging to the Madman for help.

The CBC is a terrible source for news. They are not impartial and play jumble with facts.

Hey UK how about we fast track pipelines to the Atlantic and sell our oil to you instead?

I rather think Trump will dispute the idea of this being WW3 as many countries involved in the first 2 have refused to join him on this latest one.
Rather like @CanadianLori suggests, Trump is a classic example of the Neighbour from Hell.
Re the link posted by @redstar I can't see anything in there which relates to Trump or a desire for Alberta to become part of the US ???
The US needs the UK too according to Trump - otherwise why all the bitching about use of air bases, etc. in his latest aggression ? When you consider that one of his election campaign pledges was not to allow the US to get involved in "foreign wars", he's not doing too bad so far.

As far as I know @CanadianLori that's what will happen with pipelines and rail routes to Churchil and Halifax so Canada can sell oil, uranium, lumber, wheat and much more to countries with stable politics and the rule of law, not subject to megalomaniac trumpy tantrums.

@redstar, i'm sure Mark Twain had you in mind when he said,

"It's easier to fool people than convince them they're being fooled.".

The world is deeply inter-connected by trade that keeps economies going that the kinds of disruption trumpy tantrums have caused mean the US is an unreliable partner no-one can depend on. Alliances are now being re-assessed as nations create ways to get around - hence closer ties between Canada and China on trade and between Canada and Europe on trade and defence.

It's not just that he promised no more endless wars @Philippa but also cheaper petrol and food prices and more jobs and industry in the US. Now he's trying to rig elections by removing voting rights from women and veterans, gerry-mandering election wards, and removing the rights to postal votes altho he always votes by post.

The US managed to create 19% of its energy from renewabls last year. The UK is at 44.9% and growing so yes @redstar, oil prices will rise for the whle world, including for your gas guzzlers, but the UK is better protected than the US as it has greater diversity.

The trouble with under-sea pipelines is these are prone to sabotage.

Yrs ago I read a Lionel Shriver novel, set from 2028 onwards, in a world where the US dollar was no longer the world's exchange currency. If various former US allies get seriously fed up with Trump's antics and there is no sign of a candidate (from either party) hoving into view for the next election who might return things to some semblance of order, the notion that the status quo re the primacy of the US dollar should hold might start to get a little shaky, especially if a reliable "competitor" stepped up with a stable offer to take over the role.

                  Who knows? :)

still find it amusing that folks want to compare the UK which is the same size as Oregon to the United States, in energy usage, etc.

@Obelix-Vendée, Just to give an analogy to what you said here:-

The US managed to create 19% of its energy from renewables last year. The UK is at 44.9% and growing so yes @redstar, oil prices will rise for the whole world, including for your gas guzzlers, but the UK is better protected than the US as it has greater diversity.

I spend 19% of my gardening budget on heating and lighting because I invested in good insulation, which leaves me 81% of it to buy plants and other nice things. My neighbour spends 44.9% of his gardening budget on heating and lighting because he has no insulation, which means he only has 55.1% left to spend on plants. Our gardens and greenhouses are not the same size. He has a much bigger garden but the percentage of his allowance that he has left to spend on plants is 25.9% less than me. Forgive my arithmetic if it is dodgy.

I wonder what the pro lifers who voted for Trump are thinking now? Presumably their pro life stance doesn’t include children and innocent civilians?
Trump is quite clearly a dangerous psychopath, with no morals concerning his responsibility to the American people. While people lose their access to Medicare and Medicaid, and the farmers will not have the fertiliser needed to plant this years food crops, he is demanding extra money for the military, and bizarrely, to refurbish Alcatraz. It used to cost three times the amount to run than a regular prison, and as a tourist attraction, is making a sizeable sum every year for the National Parks Service. Maybe, having seen the writing on the wall, he is hoping to have it set up as a cosy bolt hole for when he has to face the music for his war crimes, embezzlement, insider trading, etc etc etc.
Sadly, American lives will be lost in a war that is doing nothing more than supposedly boost the ego of a madman, while making himself a figure of ridicule across the rest of the world.
