I'm going to come at this from a slightly different angle.

I'm not convinced these "off the cuff" comments are always as "off the cuff" as they appear.

I don't watch the programme, I don't fit their socio demographic target market
Now, compare that with smoking statistics and there is quite a strong correlation.

So, if certain types of men wouldn't dream of saying that to a lady, there must be quite a number of females that may not even realise what their breath smells like; it may never have occurred to them?

If his comment made even one young person rethink how smoking may be affecting their interpersonal relationships then maybe that is not such a bad thing? :dunno:

It's not too far fetched to think that things a "celebrity" says/does could influence/manipulate impressionable people's behaviour

And what's in it for them? More money in the audiences pocket to spend on music ;)

That's a good point Mum, I hadn't thought of it like that. So, its possible that it was planned in advance, maybe without the young lady's knowledge (she did seem genuinely shocked and hurt and she's not, as far as I know, a trained actress).

Shocked? I dare say she felt totally mortified!
Or, is it his personal anti-smoking attitude?

Whichever, overall I dislike the way putting people down, humiliating them and then deeming that "normal" has become ... the norm! Not just on this type of programme, but the way younger members of society speak to one another generally.

I find it troubling too Mum; so glad we have GC around to remind us that many like minded people can communicate on a civil level and still enter discussion and debate without resorting to hurtful language,
