Hello Woo my dear friend, i see that you made a slight mistake on the title. Have you had too much to drink celebrating the new year?
But don't worry i know what you mean.

 

I just want to thank you Woo for starting off all the new threads.

Mistakes or not you all do a brilliant job...I could definitely think of better things to do than creating all these threads for us.

I've used that reason several times over the years.

 

Yeah I'm tending to stick to my clay soil as well, or maybe it's sticking to me.

Absolutely. My trainers look barely ten years old.

Closer to topic, there's no outdoors activities that wouldn't see me sinking ankle deep in the greenish thing formerly known as lawn, so all efforts are on houseplants.

In an unexpected burst of energy I carried the Costus Dinklaegi to shower to be un- aphidified with Fairy. The plant is quite nice but a proper pest magnet which in fact is great as the little ones ignore all other plants.

That started a chain reaction, seeing me carrying all plants apart from cacti for a good wash, cleaning all windowsills and painting the top of the sideboard that houses most of my green friends. And since the paint was out and the brush already dirty, some pots got a lick of refresher too and the pink ring on bathroom windowsill a camouflage. Take my words of wisdom, when colouring one's hair pink it is unadvisable to stand the pot on white wooden surface.

The one whose name I keep forgetting turned out to be a bit of a challenge. I have a tall basket that used to have a nicely fitting inner plastic pot to house a neat plant. I didn't like the plastic thingy so took it out and plopped the plant in in it's own, large pot- a perfect fit!

So perfect that it took me quite a while to wrestle it out, spilling compost everywhere and breaking off several branches. Now it has garden string crisscrossing underneath the pot, hanging out in a decorative manner. Sort of.



Cleaning the plants and plucking out all dead leaves makes a difference, and reminds me that the operation should be done more often. The amount of dust an Aloe can hold is rather remarkable.

Sun is shining today and it feels like spring is just around the corner.

Thank you @pete , it is indeed. I shall remember the name for the next four minutes One of those plants that are not doing much but are anyways quite nice. I think I paid £1 in IKEA some years ago. I had it on a small windowsill and it duly grew into a neat cubical shape, that was fun

 

I just looked at the seeds (asltroemeria) I have in paper toweling in a jar in the fridge. The only gardening I do this time of year, takes place indoors. And I have to say, I think I prefer looking at soil blocks with seeds (chilie, kelsae) to looking at paper toweling in a jar in a fridge...

 

First go out and pick up the blown around stuff. Prune soft fruit bushes and then we'll see.
