I have no idea, just looking for ideas. So does that mean no flowers are suitable yet? It's all new to me

I have onion, chilli, pepper and Nicotiana seed sown. Most have germinated. I should have started chitting my early potato tubers by now but am not so well organised.

Within the week I hope to sow early cabbage and cauliflower seeds and basil.

Hi Kelc, it depends a little bit on your personal circumstance, I think February is probably the ideal month for planning as there tends to be far less to do than most months. The soil won't have warmed up enough yet and there is still a risk of frost which would mean you could well plant seeds now, see them germinate only to die off.

I can make some suggestions if you have window space, you could propogate seeds such as salvias, dahlias, lavender and geraniums (though not many of these go with the jungle theme if you are going down that avenue). But outdoors there isn't a lot you can do flower wise at this time of year (if you are thinking of growing fruit then raspberrys, currants, rhubarb can go in now I think if the conditions are right i.e. position and soil drainage). Outdoors you might still get away with lilly and allium bulbs (though you are meant to plant them in Autumn I think).

But I think my suggestion would be to resist the urge for another month, look at what you want to be growing in March and collect seeds / bulbs / equipment to do that.

          Hope that helps :)

Flower wise I would only suggest sowing the really slow starters around now.
Things like begonia seeds, not tubers maybe lobelia or any less usual seeds you might be trying.
Often perennials that are sown early tend to flower the first year, which otherwise might not if sown later.

But all depends on what your growing on conditions are like really.
Any one can germinate seeds but having the right conditions to allow the plants to grow on, early in the year, is the secret.

I have a tendency to agree with what has already been said in regards to seeds.

A lot depends on how you have planned your garden, but you could possibly consider things such as garden structures, artwork and so on. Maybe even marking out and preparing new borders if that has not been done yet.

I’m looking around for cabbage seeds of the variety Pixie apparently a very quick growing variety 50 days from seed but have tried all the usual seed companies and not available if any member knows where they can be obtained I would appreciate

Used to grow a variety called greyhound, not sure how that fits with more modern varieties.
