What fertiliser for Toms and Cucumbers

    Hi could someone give me advice/recommend what feed I should give to my tomatoes and cucumbers. My plants live in a greenhouse and are planted directly into soil not grow bags. Before I planted, I worked/dug in plenty of blood fish and bone and chicken manure pellets to fertilise the soil before planting.

    Once they have flowered use something with a high Potash content, they are usually advertised as "Tomato fertilizers" and named something like 'Tomorite' - beware these are expensive and in pound shops you can buy the exact same thing - just compare the N:P:K ratio (Tomorite is 4:3:8). I often get the Wilko liquid feed, currently I have a stock of Phostrogen Tomato Feed (12:5:24) bought in the winter sales.

      Comfrey tea. Get comfrey leaves and submerge in water for 6 weeks or so. Then mix 1 part to 10 parts water and feed plants. Beware it does stink like a dead dog.

          My gran said something about soaking a load of nettles in a bucket of water for a few weeks and using the brew off that. Anyone tried that? She said the toms were sweeter than ever.

            Yes it's similar to the Comfrey Tea that rustyroots described above. It is a good organic alternative to bought in chemicals if you don't mind the stink.

              Nettle tea has high iron trace and toms are not to keen, it is better used for leafy plants.

                My cucs and toms get fed with homebrew comfrey and they both do well on it. I cut and brew over one year and use it as feed the next.
