Hosta Patriot, a good one for flowering and popular with bees. The white leaf margins really stand out from a distance.

They can set seed too @Victoria. I usually remove the flowers to encourage more and larger leaves. Some of the flowers are more attractive than others :).

If it wasn't for the slugs I'd grow hostas for the flowers.

You could try growing them in pots and put them on a garden bench or chair @NigelJ. This seems to deter slugs here.

I could, but I don't have any chairs or benches in the garden and I already have more than enough trip hazards without adding more.

I took a few photos while watering today.

A closeup of Silas Marner. I love the fragrance as well. Small flowers at the moment, but it's a still a baby.

I bought a couple of young Salpiglossis plants a few weeks ago and they've been flowering very well. I've posted the amazing purple flowers before. The second plant has a much subtler flower, a very delicate primrose yellow.

Veronicastrum. I had to keep rescuing this one from the fox's diggings earlier in the year.

Thistle. I shall cut this down soon so it doesn't get to seed itself around, but for now I'm letting the insects enjoy.

Wild Carrot - a surprise appearance but a very welcome one. They develop the most beautiful seed heads.

I wouldn't want to encourage that then @NigelJ .

The previous owner here left an old bench which I cleaned up and painted and now use as a slug free zone (so far).
