I found these lying on the ground in our local park where we walk Fletch - at first, I thought it maybe some sort of nut, but when I picked it up and gave it a wee squeeze....

Quite glad I didn't go full gorilla on it. The odd thing is that I couldn't see any tree nearby that looked as though it would have borne this fruit? There was quite a few of them lying on the ground, so it wasn't as though someone had carried them in or something. Anyone know what it is?

Last year my passion flower was packed with these fruit, I've not got any this year which I thought was down to the weather.

      Well I'll be....

There is a garden relatively nearby, but I didn't see any passiflora in there. I take it that it must have been birds that carried the fruit across and dropped them?

This is pretty much the exact location - Google Maps so it could be that house on the corner.

The birds never seem to go for them in my garden and they last through the winter till spring adding colour and interest. Maybe the parakeets in your area go for them.

Ah, now that is a good thought! There are a lot of parakeets around here and around that park too - you may well have hit on something there.
