I built a raised bed last year, about June, I grew Tomatos, Potatoes, beatroot and runner beans, I managed to get blight on my potatoes and tomatoes. I have read I shouldn't plant them again in the same soil for at least about 3 years. I am going to top my raised bed up with 2 bulk bags of Vegmix soil will this still apply.

    Hi Kakys,

It would certainly help to stop the rain splashing the spores back up onto the foliage. It was more the weather that spread the blight last season.

If potatoes had ever been grown on my land then it would have been before 1920 & I still got nearly wiped out by it. Not found any of the native Solanacea here either.

A few of us are planning an earlier crop this year, to get the harvest in before late season blight strikes around august.

I've just planted Tomato, tamina. Very early outdoor variety. Sow mid feb, then bring on in greenhouse till frosts have passed.

You might want to consider blight resistant potatoes & spraying with bordeaux mixture as a preventative too.
