    Hi,

Apart from todays storm, would not worry that much about protection as they are quiet 'hardy' plants. :)

BRRR! Just braved the outside for a photo!
You may need it a bit taller as my radish leaves are 9-10 inches and not quite ready for picking, the whole frame of the trug is two foot tall.

With the wind like today you may need to weight down the acrylic top somehow too?

Let us all see how you get on @Cordy as I might just do the same for my small trug (if its not too cheeky to copy your design!)
      Regards
      Tink

        Progress, the Acrylic arrived today
Cut and assembled parts to see if it fits OK
Need to dismantle it and apply yacht varnish to frame front and back
Radish coming nicely; Rocket is showing too
Managed to break some acrylic, so made glass Yacht for grand-daughter

That looks amazing @Cordy and very sturdy. I am in the middle of making my version for my little vegtrug after being inspired by your designs. So far I have the frame up (aluminium frame staging re-jigged) and covered in fleece tied with string is stage 1.

Have a large piece of builders clear (but dirty) strong plastic sheet that I plan to cut and sew together (if my old machine can handle it) and add two zips to make a front cover (tent style) will be stage 2.

Doesn’t look much now but hopefully stage 2 will be more impressive! :)

Tink. Ps Love the Tinkabelle boat

              Update
Stage 2 started, plastic cut and zips put in place, all held with temporary clips to check for size and practicability. Will shorten it to the bottom of trug base. Now waiting for the material edging to arrive before attempting to sew it together.

Haven’t done a test run on the sewing machine yet, will try that today. If that’s a no, then may try stapling it together and covering the edges with duck tape. I will not be able to use the zip design in that case so may resort to leaving the front cover unattached, just held to the sides with ties of some sort (more garden string, ha).

It’s not going to be the prettiest but should give me some winter crops. Have broccoli in there atm so it’s probably too hot for it with the weather warming up this week, may look at something lighter to throw over the frame for now.

              Happy Sunday Gardening Y’all

Managed to varnish the wood bits after adding small Walnut handles
The back board - dark one - is four pieces of Walnut that I found in my small wood pile
Front board is two pieces of Oak glued together
Glued the Acrylic top sheet to Walnut with a small tube of E6000 found in a drawer, it must be eight years old; but not opened, needed weighting down !
Now waiting for TENSOL 12 adhesive cement for Acrylic (from eBay) to glue the side sheets to the top

                    Hi @JR
The top sheet of Acrylic 810 mm x 390 mm x4 mm is from
Palglas | Century Plastics Limited - cut to size acrylic plastics sheffield
                    Including postage cost £28.75

The side sheets are only 3 mm; cut from an A4 sheet I already have

Not worked with acrylic before, the 3 mm was cut to size on my small table saw (crosscut blade 60 teeth per inch) I actually used a woodworkers number 4 block plane to trim to correct size
E6000 glue stuck the Acrylic to wooden frame OK

That looks like a proper workshop you have there @Cordy no wonder your results are impressive, where do I send my order to LOL !!!! Ha ha ha!

Post more motivational photos of your projects as I’m still trying to get my head around sewing my cover, but with the warmer weather I am less motivated to finish it, and that the little trug currently has broccoli in it means it’s not needed just yet.

From my church going days that looks exactly like a pulpit! It’s great and unique to your garden. Well done @Cordy keep creating!

I am very lucky as my partner is a carpenter/joiner but I like to do things myself so we have a trade off. I do a little drawing design of what I want, ask him (nicely) to do the measuring, cutting etc (everything has to be the correct angles, sharp finish, straight lines with him, whereas I like the ‘rustic’ look my sawing and measuring creates ha ha). Then he tries to ignore me as I put the thing together, when he can’t take any more he says “give it here, I’ll do it” and a little later along comes a sturdy practical item that I then “slap” paint or varnish on and he just rolls his eyes!

                        Fun fun fun!
