Shepherds pie today with mixed frozen veg, which I wont be buying again, I'll stick to peas and broad beans.

Two minced shepherds, mashed tater, topped off with strong cheese.

I think I shall make a Carbonnade of beef today. :)

Shin or leg of beef browned first. Then lots of sliced onions sweated right down, with garlic, until they have caramelised nicely. Cooked for a long time in beer, herbs and some mustard and I may add just a touch of tomato paste. They usually use flour or bread in the cooking to thicken it up but I just cook it down more.

In Belgium it is traditionally served with chips or crusty bread. I may serve it with mash or rice.

I love peas and broad beans. The Portuguese use the latter a lot called favas (pronounced fav-ash).

I always have a jacket potato on Mondays and T'other Half pasta. Usually I just have it with butter, cheese and onion, yesterday was with Red Leicester. It s the only day of the week we have the same thing.

Breaded cod fillet with baked potato and sweetcorn with a side salad and grated beetroot and a piece of very strong cheddar cheese. I'll put something on the potato at the table.

We just had home-made tacos ... yum. In our younger days we used to make the taco shells.

I'm on rations, specifically British Army ones! Just thought I'd try them as an experiment for the sheer fun of it, plus I occasionally go camping and it would be nice to know I could just grab one of these 24 hour packs rather than have to put a load of stuff together. So far I've had the Pork Sausages in Beans with Tomato Sauce and a small pack of mixed nuts, both not bad but not really good either! :heehee: Now I'll be having Pindi Chana Aloo followed by Oat Digestive biscuits, then Dried Fruit and a Chocolate Brownie later this afternoon and Meatballs and Pasta after my run this evening. :) Most of the meals seem to simply need boiling in the bag for 7-8 minutes but can also be eaten cold, I think I'll skip the latter!

                          Nick
