    Guests today.

Soup is already prepared and is a bit unusual - cream of spinach, courgette, apple (all picked from the garden) with coconut milk and fresh ginger.

Roast chicken stuffed with a pierced lemon and lightly coated with garlic salt and herbs, crispy roasties, sliced brussels stir fried in butter and topped with toasted flaked almonds and grilled cauli (brussels and cauli from a friend). Followed by apple, blackberry and raspberry (from the garden) crumble.

Sous-chef hasn't turned up for work so doing it all myself. I think the maid has taken the day off as well! Can't trust people nowadays.

Several years back i was called upon weekly to take my artic into a well known food factory.
There i would load up 26 tons of food that was perfectly good and IN DATE, but i was to take it to the land fill site for dumping. This was purely because the date stamp was only a couple of weeks remaining which meant that the supermarkets wouldn't accept it. I wonder how many tons of good food are scrapped each year in the uk.. Probably best we don't know :noidea:

Tonight we are having breaded chicken fingers, hash browns and battered onion rings ... what we call a "brown meal" all done in the oven on a tray and can be eaten with the fingers. Tomorrow I am making a meat loaf with mash and green beans. We don't eat starters or desserts.

I've run out of baked beans,:yikes: OMG.
          How did that happen?

Favorite snack, crispy fried streaky bacon with baked beans cooked in the bacon fat.
A slice of fried bead if I'm feeling hungry.

Well they better or it will be a total disaster.

Do they come from France then?
I know that when we were in the EU they made pretty sure we were totally dependant on them for most things but baked beans, surely not.

I haven't had baked beans in 30 years! Don't know why  I guess I'll have to revisit this delicacy  .

And no, I do not have a leftover 30 year old can hanging about :heehee:

I've had a weird day as far as what I've been sticking down my gullet. Had a sausage for breakfast with ice cream and fudge for dessert. Then a little while ago, I had an afternoon snack of Christmas cake and a candy stick (they used to be called candy cigarettes) and later, I'll probably reheat a barbecued hamburger.

                Not very motivated today.

Have you tried, or do you like, Boston Baked Beans? My simple and quick version is baked beans, chopped onion, streaky bacon, a bit of brown sugar and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. You can add hot stuff if you like or mustard. I love fried bread.

So do you cook the onions and bacon first before adding to the beans an the other stuff?

Yes, if you want to do it quickly, otherwise put it all in the pot and do a slower cook. You can add chopped sausages or hotdogs to it as well.

My mother used to heat up baked beans and put slices of hot dog in with them. Wasn't a bad combination if I remember correctly.
