Made some more soup from our pumpkins, onions, parsley and garlic. Put some in the freezer for another day. We needed the soup as it has become so cold and it helps us to warm up.

I like cavolo nero but it tastes quite salty to me. I assume there's a high level of something or other in it.

Maybe how you cook it? It's high in fibre, calcium, iron and potassium but low in sodium.

I just boil it in water or steam it. Nothing added at all. @Obelix-Vendée
          Maybe it's the potassium.

I also made a lentil soup but a totally different type. :)

Mine was an Indian Dhal soup. Made with red lentils, onions, garlic, freshly ground roasted cumin seeds, homemade garam masala, a touch of chilli, bay leaves, and tomato paste (couldn't be bothered to use our own tomatoes :heehee:) and served with lemon slices.

Half the saucepan full had been taken before I could get the camera out.

No mushrooms here as Possum thinks she doesn't like them. OH will be having dinner with pals after a golf competition so Possum and I will have duck breast with plum sauce, gratin dauphinois, cavolo nero and peas.

I have a question. I have just bought the turkey. I have been cooking turkey at Xmas for over 40 years and always buy fresh and with the usual use by date of 26th Dec. Well, when I get it home from the SM I always get it out of its wrappings, remove the neck and giblet bag (and put those out for the fox) and put the turkey in the roasting tin, apply butter etc. then wrap tightly in foil. It then sits in the cold fridge for another 4 days till Xmas day, when it gets cooked. I now read everywhere that it should be left in its original wrappings until you cook it. I am just heading out to see what instructions are on the packaging ......

@cactus_girl I would leave it in it's wrapping. Fresh uncooked turkey should only be kept unwrapped in the fridge for 2 days. Poultry is particularly susceptible to bacterial infection. The turkey will have been wrapped in conditions as clean as possible. Also gas may have been used to help it keep for longer. Commonly used are carbon dioxide, nitrogen or oxygen, which are harmless to us in that situation.

I shall leave it for a few days. I also worry about the bag it came in - is it clean on the outside? I can cover the whole turkey and tin with foil to stop other items touching in the mean time.I am a fuss pot and don't like handling poultry. I am glad when it's cooked.

@CanadianLori Brilliant and yesterday I started some more with 3 demijons on the go now and still we have loads of beetroots still in the ground to eat.
We had our first beetroot wine at Christmas with our son. He was very pleased with it and quite taken aback when we told him it was beetroot!
