It sounds as if they`ve been frosted. As long as the potatoes are still sound I would leave them and see what happens.

    can i ask somthing please

is there a min temp (average) the tattys can be put in the ground.

    to further my question
    ideal chiting temp.
    ideal ground temp.
is there a point between the two that is spot on
and also just one last thing water content of the outside soil/mud, to wet is bad to dry is also bad.

i know there is loads opn this site about tattys , i been looking but im all cocfuzzled

Bung them in now and you will be OK.
Once under the ground they are safe from frost, its getting too late to worry about chitting.
Once the shoots surface they need frost protection, but by them , hopefully, the frosts will be over.
