Well, when I take a cutting I move it up to a 12in pot over probably two years, so first year up to about 8ins.
Once it gets to 12ins in the second year it then stays in that pot for maybe three years with feeding in the summer.
The one I left out was one of these old plants, I didn't have room uncover for it, and it survived.
So now I'm looking for a sheltered spot to plant it out and see if it comes through another winter.

Its called "Anastasia" , I tried Quadrangularis a few times from seed but never had any success.
I believe that needs pretty warm conditions and gets quite large.

My favourite, although I dont have one anymore is P. alata, its almost like a smaller version of quadrangularis, with good dark red sepals and purple filaments, its also quite highly scented.

Oh @pete , I assume you chop it back a bit (lot?) when taking it back indoors for the colder months?

I bought the P caerulea as a plant and Sis bought me P 'Victoria' as a plant, both probably a meter tall. Think I got fruit on the first one. Thhe P quad I tried from seed. I also had a purple one and the P edulis. Guess it is not the plant for me.

Strange thing is, I think some should do well in your climate.
Were you pot growing or planting out?

P caerulea was in the ground. Rest in large pots, probably why P caerulea thrived for a while. I tell a lie, it did not fruit looking back, it was the Cobea ...

... but it was a long time ago! Must do them again.

Well, just my thoughts but I think in your climate maybe an Autumn planting would be best, giving chance to establish before the dry heat starts.
Even here when growing in pots I sometimes, when in full growth in August, have to water pots twice a day.
