      Oh, too much!!

I only have a tiny garden and so have applied for an allotment with the local parish council. I am second in the waiting list at the moment, but no idea how long it will be before a plot becomes available!

For this, I would like to acquire a greenhouse and grow some tomatoes, peppers, chillies and aubergines (a bit mad!) but also cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, courgette, beans and potatoes.

My garden-wise, I would love to have a variegated coleus plant with purple and green leaves, a variegated hosta, an oxalis triangularis, and a couple of roses - perhaps a white and pink variegated one, and a properly dark red kind too.

For indoors, I would love a Tradescantia Zebrina! such beautiful leaves.

I keep a little list of plants I would like on my phone and then see if anything is on sale or reduced if there is enough money left at the end of the month to spend something on the garden.

What's new in my garden? A big hole (13 square metres). Been lifting turf and digging it out to put down base for slabs. Soil very heavy as today is the first fully dry day (and the last, according to the forecast) in weeks.

What's on my wish list? Well, either Armandii or Trunky's beautiful gardens, complete with them to do the work of keeping them so beautiful :hapydancsmil:

I'd imagine that the seeds need to be fresh and probably need some fiendishly complicated sequence of breaking dormancy.....although I don't remember going through any special palava. I'll wander down to see if mine still has seed in the capsules. If so, it's all yours :) (and CarolineL's).

I won't fiddle with those seeds now. Might pay real money to get a plant as I have had too many failures.

@toppington - I have always had a soft spot for Tradescantia Zebrina - my next door neighbour when I was a child had a few of them, and one in particular was an absolute cracker that was in a hanging pot that dangled under the open plan staircase..... as this was in the early 80's, it just added to the air of 'modern' in her house.

Funny how the childhood things come back to you later in life.

The odd thing is, I have never seen one for sale anywhere, ever (or I would have bought one or more!)

              Hi @Fat Controller , and @toppington.,

This is mine ( actually this is about half of it ! ), bought as a small plant in a 3" pot last year from B&Q for £3.99 .

              WP_20170712_21_06_10_Pro_LI.jpg

I've got about 30 cuttings on the go at the moment, so if you want one let me know in about a months time.

There's a mail order company in North Wales called Dibley's who do a wide range of Tradescantias/Zebrinas and other houseplants.
I've had Species Begonias off them and they were brilliant little plants and well packaged.

Oooh, yes please @KFF - I will try to remember in a month or so, I would love one, thank you! I don't think I have much to offer in the way of swapsies, but if you spot something in my posts that you want/need, just let me know, and of course I will make sure you are reimbursed for postage etc. :dbgrtmb:

That's ok FC, I'll keep my eye open but I'm not thinking of it as a swap. Don't worry about the cost :)

Hi @alp, @noisette47 and others... well I have a very small rockii from seed - they have been sitting in a pot in the cold frame for 2 years before germinating this spring! But I still think my chances of getting it to flower are low - 2 germinated but I have already managed to kill one. I have now planted some more that have had the airing cupboard/fridge/airing cupboard treatment. As you said, the problem is variability - I once grew rhododendron fortunii from tiny seed, and the only one that got to flowering size looked like a wan mauve ponticum. Years of waiting for disappointment!
@Clare G - I have a ruscus that berries reliably every year and produces offshoots. If you are interested.... It was sold as one of the hermaphrodite ones rather than the normal dioecious, but I think there were actually a male and female in the pot! If so, I'll try and propagate both

@wiseowl - our local Morrisons, a very big one, has some nice tall dicksonia! And a range of olive trees - little standards from £15 to ancient specimens with massive trunks for £450!
It would be your best chance of getting a good sized dicksonia at a good price. sorry I didn't check the price of them, because I have one bought as a lump of trunk (£25) from Gardener's World Live many years ago.
