What's this plant, please?

    Hi everyone, just joined because i haven't got a clue what this is...

    It just appeared in my garden this year.

    The name escapes me, but I think its a wildflower/weed, depending on how you look at it.
    Seem to remember it turns into something similar to a dandelion seed head. Looks to be doing well.

    Thanks Pete.

    I was just informed that it's a salsify, and from what i'm told they do go like that dandelion seed head you mentioned.

    It's also nice to find out that the leaves are edible and at the end of the year i can also eat the root. Hopefully should have some seeds for next year as well.

    They're worth it just for the flowers though.

    Its salsify is it?
    Got to admit thats not what I was thinking of but I believe you are right.
    The plant I was thinking of grows wild in grass land around here and probably belongs to the same family. Anyone got any ideas?

    Had a quick glance on 'Google images', and found this pic :-

    Looking at it, it seems your flower is most probably a salsify of some sort, there seems to be lots of different colours and variants.
