What sort of marigolds are they?
If they're the pot marigolds you can cut them back. If they're the other ones you pull them up after the frosts or when they've finished

    Thanks Colin

Yesterday continued mild and dry and when the sun came out for the afternoon the temperature just topped 70F/21C.

        It's dark this morning. :rolleyespink:

            Hi,

Many thanks Logan; the marigolds are planted in our front garden so up they come shortly and be replaced by something else; perhaps garden ready wallflowers. I'm seriously starting to get into this gardening hobby having only done it on a need to do basis until two years ago when we completed work on our bungalow the work spanning 30 years from foul drains to the chimney pot; it would have been a lot quicker to demolish and rebuild the bungalow.

I was worried about water shortage yesterday because our patio had started to dry out but what a relief to find Blackie hasn't let us down; it's another wet black hole as I type and Blackie's been doing what he's good at putting down lots of rain. Patio now back to normal soaking wet.

            Kind regards, Colin.

                Hi,

Many thanks wiseowl; Blackie has an extensive family and the picture you kindly added is just like him; he's here too and just cooled me down as I visited the wheelie bin.

WOW I've just succeeded in doing a test weld of 4mm thick aluminium with my new welder; even Blackie can't take this smile from my face; here's to Blackie; :rasp:

I'm on a roll have a nice day everyone.

                Kind regards, Colin.

                          Hi,

I need to slow down because I've just found that I compiled this post yesterday but in my rush didn't post it so a day late but better late than never; dashing around again today as usual; good job I'm retired or I couldn't fit everything in. :wallbanging:

Now I'm sitting at the keyboard the sun has been blinding me forcing me to close a curtain; I never have this problem when Blackie's here. :)

I've enjoyed my rare full day in the workshop and made a bit of progress learning how to TIG weld.

I'm happy now I've tried and can settle to more work in the gardens before winter sets in; I can return to welding later now I've picked up the basics; I've been arc welding steel for over 50 years but TIG welding is totally new to me with another steep learning curve.

What's welding got to do with gardening? Whilst I'm welding it gives the weeds a chance to grow like triffids.

                          Kind regards, Colin.

                                Hi,

Thanks Logan; yes I need to keep on top of the triffids; a few years ago I sowed lots of lawn seed and I don't think a single seed took; I was kindly given a load of well rotted horse manure and even now keep pulling out tufts of grass; I gave up planting seeds a while ago not having much luck but I can go round the gardens with the hoe one day and the day after weeds are growing; I must have been someone really nasty in a previous life; I now buy plants ready to go straight into the gardens.

It's cold but a glorious morning so far with brilliant sunshine which has been blinding us whilst out in the car; the car was soaking wet as usual and with a temperature reading on the dash at 4.5C; too busy to get into the workshop today and grounded tomorrow with four friends driving up from Leicestershire; I enjoyed a full day in the workshop yesterday which was very rare.

                                Kind regards, Colin.
