    Hi,

Heavy snow showers this morning heavy rain showers this afternoon and continuing. This morning the snow put me off wandering down to the workshop but rain I live with thanks to my personal black cloud Blackie so I've enjoyed a session in the workshop this afternoon.

I looked at the poor weld I had made on the petrol tank and thought anything I do to it can't make it worse. Nipping the tank in the big engineering vice I went at the weld with a special coarse tooth file for aluminium this file doesn't clog up.

Having gone round the weld reducing its height to flush with the tank surface it was looking a lot better and by now I was warming up. This was my first ever TIG weld on something with a curve so now for my second attempt. More welding and filing and what a difference; it cheered me up no end; the rain was running down the workshop doors but at least it was on the outside. :rasp:

    Kind regards, Colin.

Initial filing of poor weld to bring it down flush. Sorry for poor picture quality but it's dark and gloomy.

    TIG Tues_0005.JPG
After welding and filing; a bit more fettling and it will actually be a good weld; this is only my second attempt at TIG welding something curved.

    TIG Tues_0008.JPG
A poor close up of the teeth of the special file I used.

My hobbies are many and widely varied; I restored vintage valve radios for ten years making lots of forum friends; I no longer restore these radios but discuss repairs at length via email and my friend Gary is currently restoring a Philip's with a complicated motorized tuning which is interesting.

Keeping busy keeps me young and active. :dbgrtmb:

                        Hi,

8C high today and sunshine; feels much colder in the breeze but better than the snow yesterday; 13C forecast for Friday; I hope our plants and trees don't self combust. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Our central heating engineer has just departed arriving here at 10 o'clock this morning for a boiler service. He found a very slight pressure drop on gas when tested so most of the time was spent finding the cause; it was a compression stop end on an unused gas pipe blowing bubbles; I asked to have this removed and a solder fitting replace it; pressure now perfect just for the sake of a few quid; the leak was well within tolerance but any leak is unacceptable to me. Original quote £45 with extra time and work bumped up to £65 so I gave him £70 and Bron gave him a box of chocolates; well worth it for peace of mind and safety. He did a brilliant job. :dbgrtmb:

                        Kind regards, Colin.
