I recalled that today when I saw the suds, it did look slippery.

        Hi,

We've been forecast thunderstorms but best to ignore our forecasts and get stuck into something useful; if it rains so what I just get wet which I'm well used to. More heavy work today whilst it's still hot.
        Patio repointing_0001.JPG
The extreme heat has opened up patio mortar joints and if not sorted water can get in then in winter if it freezes it just creates a much bigger job.
        Patio repointing_0002.JPG
Big SDS drill used in chisel mode to chop out old mortar.
        Patio repointing_0004.JPG
Idea I dreamt up years ago for rapidly filling in thes joints; I made the bespoke mortar tray as seen.
        Patio repointing_0006.JPG
This is better; just to tidy up then another job ticked off; concrete mortar was used; 4 granite chips; 2 building sand and 1 cement not adding too much water.

The extremes of weather here on the valley side causes no end of problems with maintenance forever needing carried out. Now the wooden front door and side hung garage doors need a bit of maintenance; it never ever lets up but this rare hot weather makes a wonderful change so I'm not at all complaining; it's much better than being submerged which is normal for us.

Has anyone else suffered property damage due to this intense heat.

I've now dumped the BBC daily weather forecasts and replaced these by Met Office forecasts so I'm interested to see if the Met Office is better.

Does this mean you won't be paddling in our cat water dishes again today @wiseowl we'll miss your friendly company. :heehee::heehee::heehee:

        Kind regards, Colin.

Now the problem is diesel slopping out of overfilled tanks, usually at roundabouts. A nightmare on a m/c.

It has been a dull day, no sunshine and a few drops of rain to wet some leaves this afternoon. It feels warm.

My hubby got this message from Severn Trent water that we're with.

                What we're doing
Unlike other areas of the UK, we’re not in a hosepipe ban.

We’ve been working hard over autumn and winter to get ready for summer 2022.

And, let’s be honest, asking you to watch your water use wouldn’t be right if we weren’t doing our bit too:

                • Our teams are working 24/7, pumping 100 million extra litres of water into the network every day to keep it in good shape.
                • We’ve doubled our fleet of tankers so we can move water around much quicker. (Give us a wave if you see us out on the road!).
                • We’re now fixing around 3,000 leaks per month – this is up 17% since 2017.
                • And we’re fixing leaks quicker – our time to fix has almost halved over the last five years.

Its brightened up now, the old 4pm brightening has returned after a dull damp, without real rain, afternoon.

                      22C now and sunny.
We haven't seen anymore rain apart from that drop this morning. I dug into the borders to see if any had penetrated the baked hard top crust of soil..it hadn't.

Just had 2 hours of nice rain and half an hour of very heavy rain, road hasn't flooded yet :hapfeet:so the heavy work in fixing the drains as worked, with the fact that that the neighbour reconcreted all the yards (75 lorry loads) as well i was hoping it to work and not have the oppisite and make it worse but so far it's ok, no more flooding :)

We got the local flooding on the roads, it might be better if the gutters had been swept and the debris removed from the drain covers, but they haven't done that for a few years.

Another very grey, damp and windless day after a fair bit of rain overnight. Autumn has definitely arrived here and only half way through August. I won't miss summer this year, although dry for a couple of months cloud cover has dominated keeping it cooler than usual. Just 13C/55F today with a low of 5C/41F expected in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
