My mangetout just suddenly appeared. One day flowers and the next - wow they are here.

Love this growing malarkey - its simply amazing.

I have normal and shiraz variety - when do I pick them? Size wise, time of day etc etc.

Every day is a surprise - love it love it love it.

The one in the photo look about the right size for picking . The problem with mangetout is not many make it back to the kitchen ! When I grew them they never cropped for very long . Maybe there are methods to extend the cropping ?

        Hiya!

Love the purple-pod peas - must make them easier to pick!:blue thumb:

We've been picking for about 3 weeks now, but they have slowed right down - am hoping that they are not about to come to a dead stop...

I find if the weather is hot, it is best to pick in the morning, when they are still crisp. Then, if you are successful in getting them back to the house, pop them in an open container (eg peach punnet) in the dew bin of the fridge... Great if steamed for just 5 mins, or raw, just snapped into your salad.

So far I sm able to pick enough for dinner for hubby and I most nights. Fear that will slow in the coming week or so. So handy - just by the back door.

No sign of sweet peas, sugarsnaps or peas doing anything.

That's similar to what happened to me, it was a really really windy day, and my packet of peas got blown all over the garden. After that peas were randomly spawning everywhere. :hapfeet:
