Where Have Your Fish Come From ?

    Yes, I've been catching my own in West Somerset since I first holidayed there when I was 10 or thereabouts (and caught my first trout on Exmoor).

    It used to be easier on family hols when my daughter was younger, but she's of an age now when she's no longer interested in prawning.

    So now it's relegated to a sideline activity whilst I'm congering, etc.

    Hi Alice we were the same.we purchased some River Cobbler from ASDA, after it was recommended by a lady in the queue! it was half the cost of our usual fish purchase, we thought ( We will try That ). that night we where watching t/v, and low and behold the programme was about the state of fish stocks in this country and what strange fish they are selling from Abroad now in this Country ,and the name came up, River Cobbler
    I done a quick Google and after reading about the River Cobbler and its source and the way it was Farmed in
    the Mekong Delta Vietnam ,the River Cobbler was given the Boot, into the Bin. we will just keep going to our local Fishmonger, a bit more expensive, but it is Fresh, and not from the other side of the world from a Farm.

    Never heard of river cobbler:scratch:

    anyone tried Tilapai, I saw some in Morrisons, but it just looks like a carp to me, so gave it a miss.
    I've got my own goldfish.

    So I'm not buying any dead ones.

    Cant see the attraction of freshwater fish, they mostly taste of mud, salmon included.
    You need loads of herbs or spices to make them taste half decent, I find, but what do I know.

    River cobbler is being peddaled out at £2 a fillet by the supermarkets. Now how can they make a profit on that by bringing it from the other side of the world unless they are paying pennies to their suppliers?

    Hi Pete This will get you rushing to your local ASDA> River Cobbler Fish. It is Farmed in the Most Toxic river in
    the World. it is Allegedly injected with the Rehydrated Urine of Pregnant Women !! To make the fish grow Quicker and Produce More Eggs!!!!! Sounds Very Tasty ????.

    Yes, i've tried it, tastes like chicken.

    I googled it while I was eating it & was disturbed to find people reporting anaphalctic shock after eating it.

    Didn't suffer myself, but not bought another one, could be like the second wasp sting.

    Tesco aren't the only store that mis-lable.

    I picked up a plastic tray of yellow coloured fish fillet (obviously haddock) and labelled 'sea bass' a while ago in my local Morrisons, and told them they were lucky it was me that had found it, rather than trading standards.

    And even if if had been bass, it would still have tasted nothing like the real stuff freshly caught.

    Fair play to Morrisons, the fish monger there spotted my angling badges and actually caught up with me while I was queing at the checkout & showed me a load of fish they had just reduced to clear on a trolly.

    He asked if i'd be interested in any, I said yes, he said which ones, I said "All of them"

    I do have a freezer.
