Right all kids went back to school today so back to the gardens. I wanted to start getting some bulbs in the ground in the bed around the tree out the front but it is quite shaded what can I grow there that won't mind the shade? There is nothing there at the moment just a muddy stoney area.
I don't want huge plants that will take over.

For next spring you could try snowdrops, crocus and bluebells, but bluebells self seed and need to be kept under control if you don't want them to take over. :)

To add to Sheals list - try the small narcissi 'Jack Snipe', Cyclamen, Scilla Sibirica, Anemone Blanda and Fritillaria Meleagris.
