After seeing @strongylodon post I did a walk this morning to where there are normally some Early Purple orchids, pleased to find quite a few around IMG_20250418_093716.jpg IMG_20250418_093709.jpg

@Scroggin, They shot up quickly and as yours, a decent height but the Green Winged were very small. There will be more of both in a week or twos time.

@strongylodon , the only place locally I know of for Green Winged orchids is Scotney Castle in Kent,it's NT so I'll wait until after Easter for a visit. The orchids there, are all in the lawn by the main house.

Gentiana verna, growing on a verge in the Burren two days ago. Amazing colour...

@Liriodendron Stunning gentian photo. We worked in Galway many decades ago and made a lovely visit to the Burren and have never forgotten the landscape and the way the plants get into the nooks and crannies. Lovely photo.

Thanks, @On the Levels. I think the flowers, rather than the photo, are stunning, actually! I just bent over them with my mobile phone and clicked...
Yes, the Burren is a magical place for wild flowers, including 27 orchid species. We're lucky to live not too far away. :)

Badbury Rings near Wimborne, just two orchids showing so far June and July for the other four.
Early Purple and Common Twayblade, one of our least colourful orchids.

Thankyou @On the Levels, I don't usually go there until next month but I was surprised to see the Twayblade in flower. Next there in June will be Bee, Frog (hopefully), Common spotted, Chalk Fragrant and Greater Butterfly.
